CD single, with a pair of cheerful rockers...
Our first record. Friends & Other Strangers is mostly original songs, but it will be obvious that we love John Prine, Steve Earle, Emmylou & Gram, Peter Case, Uncle Tupelo, The Hangdogs, Todd Snider, and Jesse DeNatale. OK, maybe not so obvious, but they are all in there somewhere, along with Ian Hunter, Nick Lowe, "Dead Flowers", "Act Naturally" and of course a little Dylan.
The cover songs on this record come from New England writers: Catie Curtis, Bill Morrissey, Patti Griffin (born in Maine!), and the incomparable Cheri Knight (western Massachusetts). Our own songs come from New Hampshire, with side trips to New Orleans, Houston, San Francisco, and the Sportsmen's Tavern in Buffalo. One of our songwriters reveres the 3-minute song; another likes to stretch a bit. One writer believes songs are poems, the other believes songs are songs. The Luggnuts are a big-tent band! In fact, let's coin a new genre: Big-Tent Americana.
Most of us played music while in our 20's or 30's, until reality staged an intervention. Thirty years later, we collided unexpectedly, and rediscovered the joy of playing music. We hope we've captured some of that joy in these songs.
